Module Two

If you are to become a part of the VSU team who will formulate a handbook like that of Virginia University, give at least 2 policies that you want to be implemented in VSU or even just for CS students like you, regarding computing . Also include sanction or sort of punishment to those who will violate the said policy.

If ever I’m to formulate two policies to be implemented that would be the following:
·        Playing of computer games is not allowed when using the resources of the University (e.g. electricity, internet, computer and etc.).

Sanction:
Anyone caught violating this policy for the 1st time will still be warn.  Violating this rule for the 2nd time and so forth will be subject for hard labor for 5 hours.

·        Using of C.O.R. of other students for the internet privileges available in the IT department of the University will not be allowed without a proof of consent of the owner of the said C.O.R.  A proof of consent may be a signature of the C.O.R. owner or the owner presenting herself/himself with his/her school ID to the internet operator.

Sanction:
Anyone caught violating this policy through presenting a forge signature of the C.O.R. owner or any action that will deceive the internet operator of the real ownership of the C.O.R. will be subject for hard labor for 24 hours. A record of this violation may be recorded in his/her good moral depending on the decision of the owner of the C.O.R. whose right of ownership is being violated.

According to the definition of ethics, it can be connected to the norms or custom of the society. What could be ethical to one could be unethical to another. If this is the case, in which ethics seem to be subjective in nature, why is there a need to study computer ethics at all? Support your opinion with facts.

We need to study computer ethics for us to know the ethical rules and standards of good practice with respect to computing technology so that we can be responsible computer professionals in the future. For example, in the mid-1960s the American government already had created large databases of information about private citizens such as census data, tax records, military service records, welfare records, and so on (Tavani, 1999), if we do not study computer ethics we wouldn’t know that acquiring information stored in the database would be illegal and will violate the privacy of the people whose private informations are stored in the database.  Because of not learning computer ethics, there would be a large number of computer professionals who would do anything they are capable of even though it may cause harm to the lives of other people.

There are 4 types of non-jural law. Divine, natural, moral and physical, if you are to practice just one type of the non-jural law for the entire existence of your life, what would it be and why?

If I’m to practice one of the non-jural laws, I think it would be the Divine Law because the “law of nature” and moral law is already covered by the Divine Law alone. Divine law helps us to be morally upright. Though the Divine law is all about the rule of God which is sometimes questioned by many people, for me the main purpose of the Divine Law whether it includes God or not is to guide us to a harmonious way of living together despite of our obvious differences.
